Eddie Howe’s Position at Newcastle United Remains Secure, for Now

Eddie Howe is under scrutiny following Newcastle United’s sluggish start to the season, but reports suggest he is not in immediate danger of losing his job. Former scout Mick Brown shared insights with Football Insider, indicating that the club’s leadership is currently backing Howe amid challenges stemming from the recent transfer window.

“I’m told there is an acceptance that the transfer window did not go as planned, and that has, no doubt, had an effect on how they’ve started the season,” Brown stated. He emphasized that while the team is in a challenging position, the club remains supportive of Howe. “With the players they’ve got, the likes of Alexander Isak, they’ve certainly got the ability.”

Despite this backing, Brown acknowledged the urgency for improved results: “Results will need to turn around, though, because going five games without a win isn’t good enough when you want to challenge and qualify for Europe.” He praised Howe’s overall contributions, noting, “He has done a good job since he took over there, and he’s got plenty of credit in the bank with the fans and the owners.”

With Howe having led Newcastle to the Champions League in the 2022/23 season, many fans believe it would be unjust to part ways with him at this juncture. However, the lack of transfer activity has been a recurring theme for both Howe and the club’s sporting director, with concerns about the team’s depth compared to other Premier League rivals.
