Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte expressed pride in his time with the club, stating he got the “maximum possible” out of the squad during his tenure. Conte, who spent just shy of 18 months at the helm, left the club amid tensions regarding its culture and direction.
Arriving in November 2021, Conte was tasked with leading Tottenham back into European competition and breaking their long-standing trophy drought. He successfully guided the team into the Champions League in his first season, but the club’s performance waned significantly in his final weeks.
Reflecting on his time in charge, Conte noted, “I realise there are expectations, but if you go where there are difficulties… I think Tottenham did incredibly well, because they were ninth when I arrived and we got into the Champions League.” He highlighted the contrast in the team’s fortunes following his departure, pointing out that Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League in the two seasons that followed his exit.
Conte acknowledged the challenges he faced, saying, “If people ask me for miracles, then I can speed them up and get the best out of the squad, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we can win.” He emphasized the limitations of the squad he inherited, which included stars like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
“I think I achieved a lot there too,” he added. “I think I got the maximum possible out of that Tottenham side.”
