Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has opened up about his “dream” role at the club, addressed speculation linking him with Manchester City, and shared details of a post-match conversation with Pep Guardiola.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Guimaraes expressed his joy at life on Tyneside, where he has become a key figure for Newcastle United. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “I believe that at my club I am an idol, and I have a lot of respect. I am the captain of Newcastle, and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain—it’s something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.”
The midfielder also addressed summer rumors linking him to Manchester City, which surfaced when the champions were reportedly interested in activating his release clause. However, Guimaraes dismissed the speculation as “nothing more” than rumors.
“Of course, having Manchester City’s suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions,” he said. “I know that Guardiola likes my football. It is normal to have great coaches who admire your football.”
Guimaraes further clarified the nature of his interaction with Guardiola, recounting a brief exchange at the Etihad last March. “We have spoken once after the interview. I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that.”
