Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min is reportedly attracting interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray as his contract edges toward its conclusion. The Süper Lig champions are said to be exploring a move for the South Korean forward, with his Spurs deal set to expire next summer.
According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Galatasaray are eager to strengthen their left-sided attacking options and see Son as a potential marquee signing. The Istanbul-based club is considering a January bid for the 31-year-old or a free transfer if he opts not to extend his stay in North London.
Son, who earns £190,000 per week, is in the final year of his contract and will be free to negotiate with clubs outside England starting in January. Turning 33 next season, questions have arisen about his long-term future, with some observing a dip in his form this campaign. The Spurs skipper has contributed three goals and three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions, but those numbers fall short of his usual standards.
Despite his age and form, Son remains a key figure at Tottenham. His current market value, as per Transfermarkt, stands at €45 million. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has shown a knack for securing top fees for departing stars, as evidenced by the £100 million-plus deal that sent Harry Kane to Bayern Munich earlier this year.
If Galatasaray make a concrete offer in January, Tottenham may face a tough decision. With Son’s contract running down, a mid-season exit could be an opportunity for the club to recoup some value while planning for a future without the South Korean talisman.
