Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali is reportedly considering a move back to Serie A after a challenging start to his career at Newcastle United, according to Gazzetta dello Sport and senior journalist Carlo Laudisa, who has been with the publication for nearly four decades.
Laudisa claims that “something is broken” between the 24-year-old and Newcastle, citing his limited role in Eddie Howe’s squad. Tonali has started just six of the club’s 13 Premier League games this season, raising questions about his future on Tyneside.
The report suggests that Tonali is keen on returning to Italy, with a preference for rejoining his boyhood club AC Milan. Juventus and Inter Milan have also been floated as potential destinations. However, his current wages present a significant obstacle, as few Serie A clubs could match the salary he earns at Newcastle.
Tonali joined Newcastle in a high-profile transfer last summer, but his lack of consistent playing time has sparked speculation over whether he could cut short his stay in England. The situation is likely to draw attention from clubs across Europe as the January transfer window approaches.
