Leeds United delivered a commanding first-half performance at Elland Road on Saturday, securing a resounding 3-0 win over Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle. Despite a slow start, Leeds found their rhythm in the final 15 minutes before the break, scoring three goals in quick succession to delight the home crowd.
Despite the dominant first half, Leeds couldn’t add to their scoreline after the break, despite taking eight more shots. Tensions flared briefly as defender Joe Rodon and Junior Firpo reportedly exchanged heated words while walking off at halftime. Journalist Graham Smyth noted that forward Willy Gnonto and Mateo Joseph had to step in to diffuse the situation.
“Rodon and Firpo had angry words as they came off at halftime,” Smyth reported. “Gnonto intervened, pushing Firpo down the tunnel, while Joseph placed a hand on Rodon’s shoulder to help calm things down.”
Meanwhile, Leeds missed the presence of Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt, who were sidelined due to injury and illness, respectively. Both players participated in Tuesday’s training session, and their status will be reassessed ahead of Wednesday’s game against Millwall.
Leeds fans will hope the team can replicate their first-half brilliance as they look to climb the league table in the coming weeks.
