Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is determined to remain focused on his game as speculation swirls about his future. Currently in the final year of his contract with the Toffees, Calvert-Lewin has not yet signed an extension, leading to heavy links with potential moves, including a failed transfer to Newcastle United this past summer.
Manager Sean Dyche has reiterated that Calvert-Lewin is not for sale when the transfer window reopens in January, emphasizing that the player’s value to the team far exceeds any potential transfer fee. However, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the 11-cap England international could leave on a free transfer.
In an interview with Everton’s match-day programme ahead of the recent 1-1 draw against Fulham, Calvert-Lewin addressed the ongoing rumors surrounding his future. “Noise is noise—it’s nothing I’ve not experienced before,” he stated. “There’s always going to be noise externally when it comes to football. It’s part and parcel of the job and something you have to deal with as a player.”
Reflecting on the summer, he added, “I was on holiday with my family, relaxing. Obviously, as an Everton player preparing for pre-season, I just focused on enjoying my time with my family and getting myself in good condition.”
Since joining Everton from Sheffield United in 2016, Calvert-Lewin has made 257 appearances and scored 70 goals, ranking third on the club’s all-time Premier League top-scorer list with 56 goals. He has set his sights on surpassing Romelu Lukaku’s total of 68 goals, aiming to leave a lasting mark in Everton’s history.
“For me, I’m joint-third top scorer in the Premier League for Everton, so I need 13 more goals to surpass Romelu,” he said. “That’s been something on my agenda from the start of the season—being Everton’s all-time highest scorer in the Premier League. That would be a very, very proud achievement.”
Calvert-Lewin emphasized the significance of his time at Goodison Park, stating, “We’re playing a small part in the club’s history now—especially with our last season at Goodison. I think there’s something special about the place, and for all the great number nines who have played there, I’ll be the last one to carry that load. That’s very special to me.”
