Damon Hill Criticizes Max Verstappen’s Driving After Penalties in Mexican Grand Prix

0

Max Verstappen faced a challenging race at the Mexican Grand Prix, receiving two ten-second penalties and ultimately finishing in sixth place. Former F1 champion Damon Hill has voiced his concerns regarding Verstappen’s driving style, suggesting that he is “losing respect” for the £35.5 million-a-year driver.

Hill’s comments come in the wake of criticism from Martin Brundle, who described Verstappen’s behavior during his on-track battle with Lando Norris as “ridiculous.” Hill noted that despite stewards closely monitoring his racing tactics, Verstappen seems unable to adapt his approach.

“Danica [Patrick] is right on the driving standards point,” Hill remarked during a discussion on Sky Sports F1. “More rules just make more loopholes. It’s a shame because Max is losing respect. He could change his approach. But I think hell will freeze over before that happens.”

The ongoing debate about driving standards has also been highlighted by Yuki Tsunoda, who suggested that if every driver strictly adhered to the rules, Formula 1 might as well be run by artificial intelligence.

Despite the scrutiny, Verstappen has often excelled in navigating the “grey areas” of racing regulations, a skill that has contributed to his success in the sport.

As the conversation continues around driving conduct in Formula 1, Hill’s candid assessment reflects a growing concern among fans and pundits alike about the implications of such behavior on the sport’s integrity.
