TalkSPORT presenter Rory Jennings has heavily criticized West Ham United’s decision to appoint Julen Lopetegui as manager, labeling it a “disgrace” following the team’s struggles in the Premier League.
Lopetegui, who took charge at the London Stadium this season, has faced mounting pressure after a difficult start. The Hammers are currently 14th in the league, with just four wins from their opening 13 matches. Their troubles deepened on Saturday, November 30, when they suffered a humiliating 5-2 defeat at home against Arsenal.
Speaking on talkSPORT later that evening, Jennings voiced his belief that Lopetegui’s tenure at West Ham is doomed to fail.
“I am afraid that he is making a pig’s ear of this job,” Jennings said. “I think it is a disgrace that he ever got the job. West Ham fans were so obvious and so blatant in what they wanted for their club. Certain fan cultures really do matter. The West Ham way matters to West Ham fans.”
The former Wolves manager briefly eased the pressure with a victory over Newcastle, but Jennings suggested the Arsenal defeat has reignited doubts about his suitability for the role.
“It feels to me that he is so out of his depth, and it is only a matter of time before the West Ham United board have to pull the trigger,” Jennings added.
