Former F1 driver Jos Verstappen has poured cold water on his son Max Verstappen’s dream of competing together at the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours.
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has expressed enthusiasm for taking part in the iconic endurance race after his F1 career ends. He even envisioned a star-studded lineup, naming Fernando Alonso, Nyck de Vries, and himself, with his father Jos as a potential fourth driver.
But Jos, a gold-rated driver under FIA regulations compared to the platinum status of Max’s proposed teammates, seems uninterested in the prospect. Instead, he is focused on his passion for rally driving.
“My love for rallying came by chance. I was invited to drive a rally car at a small circuit, and it was immediately addictive,” Jos said in an interview with Verstappen.com. “What I have with rallying now is perfect for me. As you get older, you don’t get any faster, so I’m happy with what I’m doing now.”
This stance leaves Max’s dream of racing alongside his father at Le Mans unlikely, though it remains a long-term goal for the younger Verstappen. For now, Jos seems content with his new hobby and the challenges of rallying.
