Leeds United will face Millwall on Wednesday, riding high after a confident 3-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle. The win lifted Leeds into the Championship’s top two, giving them a one-point edge over Sheffield United. Dan James, who scored the opening goal, is keen to extend his goalscoring run following his recent return from injury.
James’ hamstring troubles raised concerns ahead of the Plymouth game, especially after he missed nearly two months of the season with a similar issue. However, the Welsh international started on Saturday and showed no signs of strain, much to the relief of manager Daniel Farke.
“It was not a risk [to play James] because he had no bad reaction from his body after being involved in training,” Farke explained post-match. “He looked really sharp on Friday in training, so we got the green light from the medical department. The last away game [against Bristol City], he had a good game, and I got the feeling he needed to be on the pitch.”
Farke also noted that the 65 minutes James played were ideal for building his fitness. “These 65 minutes were more or less the perfect [amount of] game time for him. It was good for his confidence that he scored the goal and had involvement in many good scenes for us. So he is in good shape. We definitely need him back, and if it would be a risky situation, I would have gone for a different solution.”
