After months of speculation, Manchester United has officially parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag, a decision that comes following a challenging start to the season and growing doubts about his future at Old Trafford.
The move has also raised questions for Newcastle United fans, amid rumors that Ratcliffe might consider Eddie Howe as a top candidate for the United role. Some sources had even speculated that Howe could be interested in the position, though this idea has met skepticism given Howe’s productive relationship with Newcastle’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer shared his thoughts on Ten Hag’s dismissal on The Rest Is Football podcast, calling United’s handling of the situation “bizarre.”
“Everyone knew they were speaking to managers in the summer,” Shearer remarked. “For them to give him a new contract after that, back him with £200 million, and then sack him within four months? Bizarre.”
When asked if Eddie Howe might be a contender for the United job, Shearer was quick to clarify. “No, Eddie’s at a big club,” he said, making it clear that Newcastle remains Howe’s focus.
