West Ham United are aiming to strengthen their midfield options this summer with a £30m budget, sources close to GIVEMESPORT have revealed.
After a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Premier League last season, manager Graham Potter is keen to refresh his squad and address the need for a dynamic midfielder. The club has already allowed several key players—Lukasz Fabianski, Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell, Danny Ings, and Michail Antonio—to leave at the end of their contracts. However, new signings such as El Hadji Malick Diouf, Kyle Walker-Peters, and Callum Wilson have already joined the Hammers.
While West Ham are eager to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season, the club is working with a limited budget to complete the transfer. The £30m allocated for this crucial signing comes after star forward Mohammed Kudus was sold to Tottenham Hotspur, generating funds for the squad overhaul.
Despite the setback, the Hammers remain focused on their top target—Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey. GMS sources understand that West Ham is willing to wait until the final days of the transfer window for a potential deal, even though Ramsey has shown hesitation about moving to the London Stadium. Should no progress be made with the 24-year-old, the club is prepared to explore other options.
Potter is particularly keen on adding a young, game-changing player to his midfield. While Ramsey is the top priority, there is also a preference for someone with Premier League experience, making him an ideal candidate.
However, the club’s limited spending power means they are now exploring alternatives from outside of England. West Ham officials and recruitment staff are reportedly compiling a list of potential overseas targets, with plans to pursue these deals as the transfer window progresses.
With their sights set on strengthening the squad, West Ham United will need to be creative in their pursuit of a new midfield addition before the window closes.
