Red Bull driver Sergio Perez, under increasing pressure this season, criticized rookie Liam Lawson for what he called a “disrespectful” incident during the Mexican Grand Prix. The clash, which occurred early in the race as they battled for 10th place, resulted in damage to Perez’s car, significantly reducing his downforce and impacting his competitiveness.
Following the incident, both drivers blamed each other over the team radio, with Perez calling Lawson an “idiot” for the move. Later in the race, Lawson’s own collision with Franco Colapinto’s Williams forced him to pit for a new front wing. Despite this setback, Lawson returned to the track and, with fresher tires and DRS advantage, was able to overtake Perez down the main straight in the final laps.
The incident has fueled speculation over Perez’s future with Red Bull, as Lawson, who temporarily replaced Daniel Ricciardo ahead of the US Grand Prix, is seen as a possible contender for Perez’s seat next season.
