Former Oasis star and lifelong Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher has labeled Tottenham Hotspur as “frauds” despite their emphatic 4-0 victory over his team on Saturday.
Goals from James Maddison (2), Pedro Porro, and Brennan Johnson powered Spurs to a stunning win at the Etihad Stadium, extending their impressive record against the reigning Premier League champions. Tottenham has now claimed six victories in their last 13 meetings with City, a feat few clubs have managed during Pep Guardiola’s tenure.
Speaking after the match, Gallagher admitted that City’s recent struggles made Tottenham the last team he wanted to face.
“The whole entire thing seems to have fallen off a cliff,” Gallagher said, referencing City’s poor form, which included four consecutive defeats leading into the clash. “If we hadn’t won four leagues in a row, I’d be worried. This is an inevitable drop-off of maybe five or ten percent.”
Reflecting on the game, Gallagher was far from surprised by Spurs’ ability to rise to the occasion.
“The one team we don’t want to play as City fans after four defeats in a row is Tottenham at home,” he added. “They do it to us every time they come there. They’re the biggest frauds in the football league. They’ll get battered by Fulham at the weekend, no problem. But they always turn up for us.”
The 4-0 result was particularly stinging for City supporters, with Gallagher admitting, “I wasn’t expecting to win that game, I certainly wasn’t expecting to lose, but 4-0 was a shocker.”
