Everton defender Jake O’Brien has acknowledged the importance of patience as he works toward securing a regular spot in the first team following his summer move to Goodison Park.
The 22-year-old, who has made only a handful of appearances for the Toffees this season, has largely served as a backup option under manager Sean Dyche. Speaking to Everton’s official YouTube channel on October 14, O’Brien reflected on his journey so far and his aspirations in the Premier League.
“I knew coming here [to Everton] I would have to be patient,” O’Brien said. “At other clubs I’ve been at, I’ve learned that patience is part of the process. Once I get my chance, hopefully, I’ll grab it with both hands and go from there.”
O’Brien, who joined from Belgian side RWD Molenbeek, also expressed his admiration for the intensity and quality of the Premier League.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world—the pace of the game, the physicality,” he added. “Even though I haven’t played much of it yet, you can see just how fast it is and the level of talent in it. I’m looking forward to stepping in and proving myself.”
