West Ham United secured a narrow 2-1 victory against Manchester United at the London Stadium, but not everyone is celebrating the performance. Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has expressed disappointment in West Ham’s display, calling it “poor.”
The match saw Jarrod Bowen clinch the win for the Hammers with a last-minute penalty after Casemiro had equalized Crysencio Summerville’s first-half opener. Despite the crucial three points, Neville was critical of West Ham’s overall performance.
On The Gary Neville Podcast, he stated, “In the first half when I watched the game I thought they were really poor. I mean, West Ham have won the game so it’s a great day for them and the fans will be absolutely over the moon.”
Neville continued, “But they’ve hung in there. [The fans] thrive on the idea of Manchester United missing chances. It gives you more encouragement in the stadium. It gives you more encouragement on the pitch if you’re a West Ham player, but I thought they were poor in the first half.”
While acknowledging West Ham’s victory as vital, he emphasized, “I don’t think I’m sitting here thinking West Ham dominated [Man] United today. But they’ve got the win. It’s a great day for them and they needed that but I don’t think they played particularly well.”
As the dust settles on this match, West Ham will be looking to build on their success, even as they face scrutiny over their performance.
Well Gary Neville let’s say this Manchester United didn’t play the second half as they played the first half West Ham United dominated the second half of the Gary from the time the whistle blew so of course you’d be critical of the way west ham played the first half but as far as I’m concerned missed chances in the first usually means the other team normally goes on to win
