Just a week into the summer transfer window, and the future of West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus is already shaping up to be one of the market’s most talked-about storylines.
The Ghanaian international’s next move is becoming a hot topic, with growing uncertainty over whether he will remain at the London Stadium or depart for one of the Premier League’s elite. Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, and even Newcastle have all been linked — but the picture remains far from clear.
A West Ham spokesperson told Hammers News that three Premier League clubs have officially expressed interest in Kudus, who has reportedly turned down interest from Saudi Arabian sides. Among the domestic suitors, it is Chelsea who are believed to be pushing hardest for a deal.
Back in May, reports suggested Liverpool was Kudus’ preferred destination. The Reds’ new boss Arne Slot has already described the 23-year-old as “outstanding” following a standout performance at Anfield late last season. But Chelsea have emerged as serious contenders, with former West Ham assistant Edu Rubio tipping the attacker to thrive under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Rubio — who worked with Kudus briefly under Julen Lopetegui — offered high praise for the forward’s adaptability and attacking threat.
“Mohammed Kudus can add more attacking threat to Chelsea now that Jadon Sancho is confirmed to go back to Manchester United,” Rubio said.
“Kudus is a very versatile attacker, like Chelsea duo Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke. He can play down both flanks and come inside into the middle. He fits Blues manager Enzo Maresca’s 4-2-3-1 system as well, as he is the type of winger he likes.”
Rubio also emphasised Kudus’ intensity and work rate, highlighting his potential in a high-pressing system.
“His approach to close down the man on the ball is exceptional. He is rapid, intense and effective with it.”
Despite the growing speculation, West Ham have yet to sanction any sale. However, the club’s financial strategy this summer is expected to rely heavily on player departures, with Kudus one of the few assets capable of commanding a significant fee.
With Chelsea pressing forward and interest from rivals building, Kudus’ future is likely to dominate headlines in the weeks ahead. Whether he leaves or stays, one thing is clear — West Ham face a pivotal decision in the early stages of their summer rebuild.
