West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus could be facing a six-game ban after receiving a red card in a recent match against Tottenham Hotspur, according to former Premier League referee Mike Dean. The incident, which occurred following a VAR review, saw Kudus’ initial yellow card upgraded to a straight red, leaving West Ham fans concerned about his absence for upcoming matches.
The Ghanaian international, who was sent off after hitting two different players in the face during the match, is now set to miss West Ham’s next three games as a result of the red card. However, Dean believes the punishment may not end there.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, Dean explained why he thinks the FA could extend Kudus’ ban to six matches due to retrospective action.
“When you see the footage back, the first one he could have got sent off for – which I’m hoping he has,” Dean said. “Then, hopefully, the second one, the FA will take retrospective action, so he’ll get done twice in my opinion. Because he’s hit two different players in the face on two occasions. He should do. I think he’ll get done twice.”
If Dean’s prediction proves accurate, Kudus could miss West Ham’s crucial fixtures against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Newcastle, Arsenal, and Leicester City.
