Jeff Stelling has expressed disbelief over the travel difficulties West Ham United fans will face when their team plays Newcastle United on Monday night, 25 November.
Julen Lopetegui’s squad is set to travel nearly 300 miles north to St James’ Park for their first match back after the international break. However, fans have been left frustrated by the logistical challenges surrounding the fixture, as they will struggle to make it back to East London after the game.
The last train from Newcastle departs before the match concludes, leaving fans with few options: either endure a long drive back home or book an expensive hotel for the night.
Speaking on talkSPORT, a supporter phoned in to voice their concerns about the situation. Stelling, visibly shocked, responded: “I looked at that fixture, and I’m looking forward to watching it, but you can’t help but think, ‘West Ham fans, how the heck can they make that trip?'”
He continued: “For a start, they’re going to have to take two days off work. Today, they get there, and you can’t get back. It’s absolutely crazy.”
Co-presenter Ally McCoist joined in, adding: “It’s madness, isn’t it? I don’t know what they’re thinking.”
